Watercolours of Life
by Sarah-Marie Clee
7th - 26th September
Sarah-Marie has always created pictures. Her childhood and youth were filled with a passion for painting and drawing. She has always had a fascination of the world around her and striven to find a way to portray the landscape, along with the birds and animals that inhabit it. On completing her degree, Sarah-Marie pursued a career in primary education and raised her family, whilst continuing to draw and paint for pleasure.
Since 2015, Sarah-Marie has been able to devote more of herself to her artistic passions. As a keen member of St Neots and Huntingdon Art Groups, Sarah-Marie has held a number of successful exhibitions, selling paintings in Cambridge, St. Neots, St. Ives and Huntingdon. In 2020, her painting, “Awakening Colour” was selected for the National TALP exhibition and was awarded the Daler-Rowney Award.
In her animal and bird paintings, Sarah-Marie uses predominantly ink and watercolour, always striving to convey the character of the creature and give a lively sense of movement. The joy she finds in observing nature in the wild is evident in her paintings. In her town and landscapes, Sarah-Marie uses the watercolour in a contemporary style, often combined with ink to evoke a feeling of place. She has a fascination for light which shines through the buildings in her street scenes casting strong shadows and empowering the scene.
